SUPER TAN - Tanning Salon & Day Spa
Frequently Asked Questions

I am going on vacation, how long before I leave should I begin tanning?
Our advice is to give yourself at least 3 weeks time to begin your tanning. Each person is individual and tans differently. If you are "snow white" I advise 6 weeks to ensure that you have a good base tan. (You will tan according to industry guidelines and go for only a few minutes at a time to ensure no overexposure)
When preparing for a trip keep in mind the location and the season, be sure to let our staff know your vacation plans so we can guide you the right way. The last thing you want to do is to wait till the last minute and cram in sessions at the wrong exposure level and wind up "pinkish" for you air plane ride!

Do I get tan after just one tanning session?
Tanning is scientific process and every person's skin is different. What most people do not know is that in order to build a healthy, long lasting tan you must take it slow. Determining  your skin tone during our registration process will determine which tanning bed/booth you should be using. Our staff will then help you chose the proper indoor tanning lotion to use. Once that is done we will begin your tanning sessions according to industry guidelines and set your time limits accordingly. If you trust our staff and follow our guidelines you will wind up with a stunning long lasting tan.

How long should I wait between indoor tanning sessions?
Can I tan at the beach and then tan indoors right away?
It is advisable to wait 24 hours between indoor tanning sessions.
No! You may not go tan at the beach and then tan indoors. Doing so will result in overexposure and possible sunburn.

Do I have to use lotion when I tan?
Yes! No matter how strong a tanning bed/booth you use without using indoor tanning lotion you will only get % of the color. Skin gets tan if it is well moisturized and the indoor tanning lotion helps to do just that. In addition, the indoor tanning lotions are formulated to allow your skin to "soak up the rays". Why waste your money on tanning sessions if you will not maximize your color?! No, you may not use tanning oil in an indoor tanning bed! Not only will it harm you- it will ruin the acrylics on the tinning bed!

Will my tan wash off if I shower?
No.When you tan in an indoor tanning bed or booth you are using the UV lamps to stimulate your melinan.(You are causing your skin to produce color) By tanning indoors you are getting a sun tan much as you would get on vacation( only in a healthier way). Just like your vacation tan fades after you are home for a bit, your indoor tan will fade if you wait a long time between tans.
The only thing you will see wash off in the shower are the bronzing agents that may be in the indoor tanning lotion you are using. Remember, a bronzing lotion will enhance your natural tan. Just like the bronzers in an airbrush tan, the bronzers in an indoor tanning lotion are purely cosmetic!
At Super Tan we will help you to decide if a bronzing lotion is right for you, or if you should be using a non-stain lotion.

Why do I need to use eye protection when I tan?
Yes. Just like you wear sunglasses outside to protect your eyes you MUST use eye protection inside tanning beds/booths. If you look up at a normal household light bulb and shut your eyes and pass your hand over your closed eyes, what happens? You can see a shadow of your hand pass over your closed eyes! Now, imagine doing that same test in a tanning bed/booth with 100-200 watt bulbs!
Not using the proper eye protection can lead to burning your eyes. It can also lead to losing your color vision, as well as losing your night vision. Our salon provides eye protection free of charge. You should NEVER tan with your eyes open in a tanning bed!

Can I bring my own tanning lotion when I come to tan?
No. You may only use indoor tanning lotions purchased in our salon. The lotions used in tanning beds/booths are specially formulated by the tanning industry to maximize your skins color absorption. You are then able to get the best tan possible in the shortest amount of time. Lotions that are not industry approved may not be used in our salon. Very often those lotions contain mineral oil and that is very bad for your skin, as well as bad for our tanning beds. Mineral oil can cause severe burns and will damage our acrylics beyond repair. Our salon has a wide variety of industry approved indoor and out door tanning lotions for sale in all price points. We will even liable your lotion bottle with your name and customer ID number and store it for you here. This way, wherever you are coming from you always know that you are ready to tan. No more running home to get your things.

What if I bought my lotion on line? Can I use it in your salon?
NO!The indoor tanning industry has strict guidelines about selling lotions on line. Simply put- it is not allowed! If you come into our salon with a lotion purchased on line it will be taken away and thrown out. Very often lotions sold on line do not contain the real formulations inside. Very often bottles look the same but with a product of lesser quality in it. There is even a case of one bottle containing nair hair removal!

Will my chemically treated hair fade faster if I tan?
Yes. Just as our hair oxidizes when exposed to sunlight it will oxidize when exposed to indoor tanning rays. But don't worry! We carry The Tannie which will block 90% of the UV Rays.

Does covering my face with a towel protect my face from the rays?
No. A towel will only block 6% of the rays from your face. The Tanfacia will block 90% of the rays and help prevent fine lines and wrinkles from forming.

Can I tan if I am pregnant?
Yes. There is no risk to your unborn child if you tan indoors. However, we do recommend that you tan earlier in the day when the tanning beds/booths are not too hot, as a pregnant woman does not want to over heat. You may tan as long as you feel comfortable getting in and out of the beds/booths. Please advise our staff if you are expecting as we will then keep an extra eye on you to ensure you are comfortable and not too hot. If you are concerned, then by all means, ask you Doctor before tanning indoors.

Am I allowed to tan more then once a day?
No. You want to allow you color to set properly, and avoid over exposure. To protect our tanners and avoid the risk of over exposure we do not allow "back to back" tanning in our salon.

If I tanned at the beach can I tan in your salon the same day?
No. We have no idea how much of the sun's UVA & UVB Rays penetrate the earths atmosphere and we have no idea how much sun exposure you got while you "sat out". To avoid the risk of over exposure we do not allow outdoor/indoor tanning our salon.

Can I combine Air Brush Tanning and UV Tanning?
Yes. We offer double dip packages. This means we will Air Brush Tan you and then you can follow it up with a half time bed/booth session. This will allow the air brush color to begin to set sooner.
